My Top Ten Podcast Recommendations
I love listening to podcasts on my morning runs! It is my daily dose of inspiration, stimulates my brain and fires me up!
I have a whole range of podcasts on my phone that I listen to, and these are my top ten favourite ones plus the favourite episode I listened to for each podcast. Let me know what you think.
I am always looking for podcast recommendations, so please share yours with me!
1. Oprah’s Super Soul Conversations
This was the first podcast I started listening to and I didn’t stop! I have listened to most of her episodes, and wow there are so many excellent ones: the series with Eckhart Tolle where he introduces A New Earth (one of my favourite books – check out my blog about my top ten non-fiction books – link here) is wonderful. My favourite conversation though is with Mark Nepo (December 2018). I listened to is 7 times. “When you think you are open, open yourself more… don’t ever think you are open enough…”
2. Under the Skin with Russell Brand
My daughter Sara introduced me to this podcast, and I love listening to the episodes and then exchanging our thoughts about them! My favourite episode is with Michael Meade (Episode #144). He is the most incredible storyteller and scholar of mythology. You have to listen to this episode. Michael made me think about the power of owning our own authentic power in a very different way.
3. Unlocking Us with Brene Brown
I was so excited when I saw that Brene had started her own podcast. My favourite episode is with Harriet Lerner, where she talks about how to apologise. I learned that an apology is only an apology if it doesn’t include an explanation for why you did what you did. Just apologise! Full stop! Amazing. A must-listen.
4. How to Own the Room with Viv Groskop
Listening to this podcast makes me so happy. I always learn something new, and Viv always makes me smile! Her advice is super practical and has helped me with public speaking. Check out her ‘How to Own the Zoom’ episodes. They are great!
5. How to Fail with Elizabeth Day
There are two episodes that I absolutely loved. The first one is with Mo Gawdat and was recorded at the beginning of lockdown and it really helped me to gain perspective. Mo has also written a book called ‘Solve for Happy’ – I am reading it at the moment and I love it. The other episode is with the amazing Nadiya Hussein, who speaks so powerfully about her own anxiety and how she manages it!
6. The Happy Podcast with Fearne Cotton
Fearne always cheers me up and I love listening to her podcast. One of the episodes that was totally invigorating and made me smile so much was with Wim Hof. I thought I have a lot of energy, but then I listened to Wim. I loved it when he said ‘I don’t need any drugs, I am high on life…’
7. Masters of Scale with Reid Hoffman
A few years ago, this was my favourite podcast. I was growing Women for Women International and the practical tips and examples of how to grow a business or organisation were brilliant and inspired many of my actions. I loved the episode with Netflix’s Reid Hastings about ‘Why Culture Matters’!
8. The Sam Collins Podcast
Sam, as you may know if you read my book, was my coach for a while and has had a huge impact on me. This podcast is relatively new, and I love it! It is raw and real and touches on so many key questions like: how can we create change in our lives and around us? I love all her episodes, and in case you are interested, Sam invited me on to her podcast Episode ‘1,2,3, Hold Hands, In We Go’ – let me know what you think!
9. The Female Lead Podcast
Just what we all needed! This is a brilliant podcast that features inspiring women, trailblazers who are creating important change! I cannot actually choose a favourite episode, because I love all the women! Yomi Adegoke is fantastic, as is Nimco Ali and Mary Beard is one of my sheros. What do you think?
10. In Good Company with Otegha Uwagba
And last but definitely not least this wonderful podcast with Otegha! It’s so great to hear practical advice about business and how you can build your own, ranging across very different sectors! I loved her conversation with Funmi Fetto!
